Black tadpole.
What I like about tadpoles is the movement they produce. That and they imitate tadpoles. Fish in April, before the frogs have spawned - that way the fish won't know what real tadpoles look like - on an intermediate on the point. This is probably my first choice for searching the banks at this time of year. Stick buzzers on the droppers, fish the from top to bottom and keep moving.
Also works quite well when tadpoles are actually around - and leeches.
Tying instructions:
Size 10 debarbed and leaded. Black marabou tail, one and a half turns of black chenille. You could make it more complicated, but then it's crap.
