Cased caddis.

Now we're cooking. April sees fish eating cased caddis and the cool thing about this fly is you can pack it with lead. Most of the case buiding caddises I know - what's the plural of caddis? - build there homes using sand, hence the hair's fur. You could glue sand to the hook of course, but that's uncastable. A great fly at any time of year, but I only ever use it in April, so I wouldn't know that.

Tying instructions:
Take a size 10 long shank hook, pack it with lead, dub it with hare fur, copper rib, make it really scruffy (cos that's what the fish want), tie in some white wool (that's the caddis pupa looking out of course) and add some hen hackle for legs - your's don't have to be a long as mine; this one's female.
