Silicone smelt.

This is not actually a silicone smelt; this is a soft epoxy smelt. It's more durable. The way to tie silicone smelts is to either use two glass sheets and squash them in batches of ten, or else a polythene sheet, a hardback book and squash them in batches of three. When using silicone it's worth remembering that it's sticky stuff and coating your fingers in washing-up liquid may save you. A really useful fly I came across on Taupo. Works great on UK stillwaters. Fish static underneath a floating fry.

Tying instructions:
silicone (or soft epoxy) and a 10 long shank hook is all you actually need, but I like to add some flash and work around this - the camera hasn't really picked this out, but that stuff's flash-a-something.
