Hawthorne.

Some years I've had spectacular Hawthorne fishing. You need a mixed sort of day really; lots of wind and sun which makes the Hawthorne flies quite randy, and reckless with it, and they tend to end up in the drink. Then you need calm, overcast spells which make the trout hungry. Get upwind and target the start of the ripple; that's where the action's going down.

If it's overcast and the Hawthorne aren't playing ball you could go around shaking the bushes, but that's called ground baiting and you'll be reborn a slug.

Tying instructions:
Size 10, black fluff body, mono rib, stripped black cock hackle legs, white poly wing, black hackle.
