Soldier palmer.
One of the most successful flies of all time ("where does he get this stuff?"); it's an emerging buzzer. Just a great fly to have on your leader. I'll either fish it in the middle, or else on the bob with a claret palmer beneath. If the fish are just below the suface then this is the way to go. Hey, it's almost a tradition.
I only actually carry two palmered wets in my box. I think I'm doing well.
Tying instructions:
size 12, brown thread, dark red seal, palmered brown cock - sorry I don't think it matters which sort - gold or mono rib.
