26 June '07 - First flies
So Babus arrives today and we're heading north. It's run-off in northern Alberta and so I expect to be lake fishing. So I'll start out by tying the flies that I always know I need.
My search patten for lakes from early summer onwards is normally a damsel nymph of some description. Unweighted ones are great, but for fast searching there is nothing better than a weighted one. So I tied five. OK that's not very many but it will get me out there.

It's an easy pattern to tie; the wing case is tied in straight after the tail, the body dubbed, wing case pulled over and then tucked under and tied in as legs. This fly has caught many thousands of fish for me. This is how John Goddard ties his Mayfly nymphs by the way.
One tip from God, is to never trim marabou; use your fingers and pluck to shape. Another is to not have sex with strangers, unless you use a condom ("that's why I invented it, brothers").
Right, gonna tie some Shipmans because I love searching water with dries..

I've caught more fish on this fly than any other. It should be scruffier than this but I've left my velcro stick somewhere and so will knock up a new one tomorrow and show you how it should really look.

More disorganised excitement soon..
Cheers, Paul
