1st August '07 - big stuff
Tied up a couple more Tandem Minkies to replace the one I lost last night. Using Partridge Big Mouth hooks because I have a bunch and only tie a few GloBugs each year (Ben).

And a bunch of black woolly buggers, despite coming to the conclusion that you can't fish too big when it comes to nightfall.

Nice thumbs huh?
And I've tied some foam grasshopper/stonefly sort of things. This was my first one, the next four were much scruffier (obviously).

If subtlety is something you are after then you've come to the wrong place. Anyway, I'll quickly tell you the results for the night. Three fish landed, one lost and one bust. Which was not what I was after. Largest was a 4lb rainbow which was great, but I was chasing bigger fish. We've moved on now - I don't think this was Eric's favourite fishing hole - which is weird because it's one of the best streams in the Northern Hemisphere (that I've come across so far), and we're back in small fish country. That was my last stab at a 6 or 7lber for a while although I'm planning to be back to fish this river again in 6 or 8 weeks. Hopefully by then it will be on fire and I'll have fixed my hook problems on the olive WBs. (The three X hook shank levers out and I missed a bunch of fish I'd have hooked otherwise.)
This is an interesting way of building a flybox, there are still no nymphs in there to speak of, this is something I have to fix soon. But I suspect that this time next week I'll be tying for Carp, Pike and 200lb Catfish.
Arden Grasshopper FU: Hook #8, black foam back, rubber legs, brown poly rope stuff, orange sight thingy. Black thread. Sexyloops: it's all happening.
Cheers, Paul
PS: Edit, olive poly rope stuff, not brown - that could be important.
