31st July '07 - streamers for night
Fishing a spot in Alberta with some large fish. I thought it was a secret spot, but it doesn't appear to be so any longer. So I don't know about you, but midsummer in popular places I night fish. I do this for a number of reasons, firstly it's fun - I like being out and about at night (just so long as there aren't any bears) - but my main reasons are that I'll more likely than not have the entire river to myself, including all the "Honey Holes", the fish will be eating (face it, midsummer fish are mostly nocturnal) and I have a good opportunity to catch the biggest fish in the river.
Night fishing is great, there are taking times when you can sequence for an hour or more, and you still need all the things that work for you during the day - reading water, stealth, accurate casting, working out where the fish are etc etc., and best of all, if the fish are up for taking streamers you can fish strong tippets and get them in quickly. I tied two lures..

This is a tandem minkie, and I can tell you right now that it worked because I landed around 10 fish on it last night before I lost it. The connection is braid, which seemed to work just fine.

This is a minkie string leech, which didn't work so well and lost me a big fish - although I landed a couple of others before the moon killed play.
Right, back to the "bench".
Cheers, Paul
