3rd August '07 - Muddlers
So I found this feather while I was on a run, and took it to be a sign..

I use muddlers a lot, both on rivers and stillwaters. I suppose they imitate injured fry as well as egg-laying sedges, when fished as a Wake Fly.

So I first came across them way back in my Ardleigh fishing days. Mid July through to early September they'd positively nail fish, when nothing else would work. The wake would bring the fish up, they'd follow the fly for a while (and sometimes hit it, erm a bunch of times - just carry on whatever your retrieve, which is mostly a figure-of-8) and then either take it completely or turn and take one of the trailing flies.
You'll find it in the stillwater section on Sexyloops, but my teams were - and still are - this: Grey Muddler l/s, Cove PT 10, Damsel Nymph 10/black Lure/Appetiser.
Or small muddler, then followed by wets.. Anyway back to the party..
Cheers, Paul
